On 3 July 2026 the upstairs draft still sounded like a visitor-centre leaflet. Mostafa went down because that counter is the work this house claims to understand. One stick. A spoon. The stationer’s small spirit stove. The puck ran. He pressed. The man behind the counter — the stationer’s clerk, not Mostafa — stopped him. Wait. The bead still mirrored the doorway. At 14:08 the surface lost its shine. Only then did the clerk lift. The matrix was readable. Nada photographed the pendant on blotter paper and left the shopfront lettering out of the frame. Upstairs, the leaflet language came off. Heat, press, and lift were written before the kettle cooled. No museum that afternoon. The courtyard photograph belongs to a later week: a court you can read from the pavement, not a claim that this desk opened Historic Cairo.
Three motions on one street
Cairo will try to load a string of museums onto a morning that still has tea in it.
